Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Agency of Atomic Energy (IAEA), paid a visit to the Principality on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the IAEA Environmental Laboratories in Monaco on the last day of September.

Mr Grossi and his delegation were invited to a lunch at the Residence of the Minister of State, in the presence of HSH the Sovereign Prince and representatives of the Prince’s Government, of the Scientist from Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

Later in the day, a ceremony at the Oceanographic Museum marked the 60th anniversary of the Monaco Laboratories.

The IAEA in Monaco helps states to assess coastal and marine pollution as well as to improve the safety of seafood products through the development and validation of methods of analysis and measurement of contaminants, the production of materials reference standards and the application of stable isotope techniques to study pollution processes and determine sources of pollutants.
