Next year’s Monaco Grand Prix will move to a more conventional timetable, by dropping the traditional Thursday practice session and moving it to Friday.
This move shortens the iconic Monaco GP to three days from four, bringing it in line with every other race on the Formula 1 calendar.
The decision would not have been made lightly, as the traditional four-day format dates back to early editions of the race, which would coincide with the Ascension Day holiday.
The reasoning behind the adjustment lies in logistics, as the Spanish GP is set to take place on the weekend before the race in Monaco.
Spain’s own shift to a later date in May is due to the expectation that the inaugural Miami GP will take place in early to mid May.
Monaco GP organisers, the Automobile Club of Monaco, have confirmed that F1 action will run on the streets of the Principality from Friday to Sunday, with both practice sessions set to take place on Friday.
While the exact timetable is still being decided on and defined by the ACM, we do already know that the 2022 Monaco GP is scheduled to take place on the weekend of May 27 to 29.
