Each year, more than 200 million new cases of this preventable and treatable disease are recorded, and nearly 400,000 deaths, especially of children, mainly on the African continent. Over the 2018-2020 period, more than 1.56 million euros has been invested by the Monaco Government against this pandemic.

By the end of 2020, out of 87 affected countries, 24 countries had reported a downturn in malaria transmission by at least three years. Eleven countries are now certified free from this disease by the World Health Organisation, which hopes to eradicate malaria in 25 more countries by 2025.

Monaco particularly supports WHO in its Sahel Malaria Elimination (SaME) initiative in West Africa.
