Stephane Valeri, President of the National Council, said on Monday, January 18, that it would be better if the Government would publish more details of the evolving coronavirus situation.

“The National Council requests the establishment of more complete and educational communication, with indication of the variables and alert thresholds triggering specific measures and therefore known in advance,” he said.

He listed four sets of figures: the number of occupied coronavirus resuscitation beds in relation to the total capacity; the incidence rate – the number of positive cases in a week per 100,000 inhabitants; the effective R figure – the rate of spread of the virus (if R is greater than 1, the epidemic spreads); and of course the number of people vaccinated.

However, Mr Valeri was generally upbeat about the way the coronavirus pandemic has been handled in Monaco, praising the way in which vaccinations are currently organised and the fantastic work of medical staff.

He also urged everyone to be vaccinated, including employees who are not Monaco residents, who should not be forgotten.

“I call on each and everyone to be vaccinated, when the moment will come for their turn, not only to protect themselves but also obviously to protect others and achieve collective immunity as soon as possible. This is the only way to put a definitive end to this terrible pandemic and its disastrous health and economic consequences.”

Mr Valeri was speaking at the traditional New Year Wishes to the Monaco press.
