The local population, including beyond the borders of Monaco, has donated a wide range of gifts to the staff at Princess Grace Hospital during the ongoing coronavirus crisis. One wealthy patient donated 150,000 to the hospital, which is in the front line of the battle against the disease. That cash has been earmarked for ventilators.
Among the donors has been CMB, the Monegasque bank. Its director, Francesco Grosoli, said: “In the current situation, economic players must be able to help the doctors, nurses and all the nursing staff currently at the front.” The bank has supplied 800 litres of hydro-alcoholic gel and a total of 11,000 masks to the hospital.
Carrefour supermarket has come to the practical aid of the staff at the hospital by opening a dedicated cash register, while Decathlon has donated diving masks that the hospital is adapting for patients to use as oxygen masks. The British Association of Monaco raised more than 3,000 euros for Easter chocolates for the hospital staff, well beyond its original target.
The hospital’s director, Benoîtes de Sevelinges, said that other people deserve recognition, too, including supermarket workers, the refuse collectors, and so many others.
