The Government has issued a public warning about a spate of scam telephone calls directed at elderly people living in the Principality.

In recent days, a young woman has contacted a number of elderly people in an attempt to defraud them. Presenting herself as a member of the family or an old acquaintance, she pretends to have met sudden financial difficulties. She presses the victim to make a bank transfer or to hand over jewellery or cash to be given to an accomplice she claims is a courier.

“The utmost vigilance is recommended, and when such a phone call is received, those targeted are asked to contact Public Security without delay,” the Government said.
